The bread and butter plate is usually positioned above and to the left of the forks. The knife blade should be facing inward toward the plate. The drinking glass is positioned above and to the right of the plate.

When seated, the napkin should be gently placed on the lap. During the meal, use the napkin to blot your mouth. If leaving the table, place the napkin on the chair, never on the table, to indicate that you are returning. When the meal is finished, place the napkin neatly on the left side of the plate. Avoid folding the napkin.
