How to Build a Wall-Mounted Drafting Table

A wall-mounted drafting table is a great way to save space in your home office or workshop. It's also a great option for people who need a large work surface but don't have the room for a traditional drafting table.

Building a wall-mounted drafting table is a relatively easy project that can be completed in a few hours. Here's a step-by-step guide on how to do it:

Materials You'll Need:

  • A piece of plywood or MDF that is at least 24 inches wide and 36 inches long
  • Two 1x4s that are 36 inches long
  • Two 1x2s that are 24 inches long
  • A set of angle brackets
  • Wood screws
  • A level
  • A drill

Instructions:

1. Cut the plywood or MDF to size. The size of the plywood or MDF will depend on the size of your desired drafting table. However, it should be at least 24 inches wide and 36 inches long.

2. Attach the 1x4s to the plywood or MDF. The 1x4s will act as the supports for the drafting table. Position the 1x4s on the edge of the plywood or MDF, flush with the top and bottom edges. Secure the 1x4s to the plywood or MDF using wood screws.

3. Attach the 1x2s to the 1x4s. The 1x2s will act as the cross supports for the drafting table. Position the 1x2s on the inside of the 1x4s, flush with the top and bottom edges. Secure the 1x2s to the 1x4s using wood screws.

4. Attach the angle brackets to the 1x4s. The angle brackets will be used to mount the drafting table to the wall. Position the angle brackets on the inside of the 1x4s, flush with the top and bottom edges. Secure the angle brackets to the 1x4s using wood screws.

5. Mount the drafting table to the wall. Use a level to make sure that the drafting table is level. Once the drafting table is level, secure it to the wall using wood screws.

Your wall-mounted drafting table is now complete! You can now use it to draw, write, or work on other projects.

Tips:

  • You can add a drawer or shelf to your drafting table for extra storage.
  • If you want to make your drafting table adjustable, you can add hinges to the back of the table and attach it to the wall with a chain or rope.
  • You can use a variety of materials to build your drafting table, such as plywood, MDF, or even solid wood.
